Words To Avoid
Effective interview subjects take
time to craft their messages. Never "wing it" no matter how sure you
are of yourself. Word choices can make or break a successful
presentation.
Tip 1: Acronyms. Some companies use so many acronyms that
even people within the organization can't understand them. Don't
make that mistake. Never assume that your audience knows the meaning
of an acronym unless it is something very mainstream such as IBM.
Tip 2: Air words. "Ah," "You know," "Umm," Many of us use
words like these sometimes. However, if your interview is loaded
with them you won't sound credible or confident. For the most part,
these words are just habits. Other times they're filler while we
gain time to think. Avoid them and you'll sound more confident.
Don't clutter up your message with air words that distract or make
you look at loss for thought.
Tip 3: Buzz words. Lose them. Every industry and organization uses them.
They roll out of our mouths without thought. No one outside of your industry
will understand them. Your story or point will be lost on the audience. Your goal is to be understood by
bringing clarity to each interview.
