Voice Power

"This is CNN!" Does anyone pack as much power as the unmistakable voice of James Earl Jones? His rich authoritative voice commands us to listen. Christine Amanpour's voice is compelling in its strength and character. Most of us aren't gifted with the dramatic sounds of Mr. Jones and Ms. Amanpour. In fact, most people just don't like the sound of their voice. No one is about to run out to Hollywood to signup for voice lessons, but we can use our voices to support the message.

Tip 1: Vary your voice depending upon the situation.

Tip 2: Increase or lower the volume.

Tip 3: Pace yourself.

Tip 4: Use your natural inflections.

Tip 5: Avoid dairy products before your interviews. They tend to add a coating that will make you keep trying to clear your throat.
